Biography

Role

Beth is member of Te Rito Maioha Primary team.  She is the programme leader for the Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary) |  Kura Tuatahi and teaches across courses in both primary programmes.

Education background

Beth has been teaching and leading in primary schools in New Zealand | Aotearoa for over 25 years. Much of this time has been working with emerging adolescents in intermediate and middle schools. She enjoys the challenge of curriculum development, especially in the areas of student inquiry and conceptual learning, mathematics, literacy and social science. Since 2012, her leadership work has included coaching and mentoring student teachers at all stages of their programmes.

Research background

Beth is currently studying towards a Master of Educational Leadership at the University of Auckland.

Teaching interests

As an educator, Beth loves the challenge of successfully bringing together a range of skills and knowledge to meet the demands of every day. She is energized by young people’s innate curiosity and drive to learn and the reward that comes from making successful connections with learners. Along with the unique perspectives and learning needs of the emerging adolescent, she is particularly interested in conceptual learning and how student inquiry can lead to enduring understandings for learners at any age.
